What exactly is Tin disulfide?

Tin disulfide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula SnS2. It is a yellow hexagonal flake , with a CdI2 cristal structure. It isn't really soluble in the water but is soluble in aqua regia and hot alkaline solutions, and also in sodium sulfide Solution, commonly used for gold paint.

Tin disulfide is soluble in hot alkali and in aqua regia solution. It undergoes coordination reactions with concentrated hydrochloric acid. However, it is insoluble in dilute hydrochloric acid and is insoluble in water and in nitric acid. It may also react with ammonium sulfide , causing it to dissolve.

Electrochemical properties of multi-walled carbon nanotubes that are confined using tin disulfide to form the negative electrode of lithium ion battery

The direct current arc plasma technique is used to prepare multi-walled carbon nanotube-confined metal nanostructures (Sn@MWCNT) as the precursor in methane environment, and later SnS_2@MWCNT nanostructures were obtained through using the sulfurization procedure. The physical characterization results of the material like Raman, X-ray Diffraction (XRD) as well as Transmission electron Microscopy (TEM) demonstrated that the length of the multi-walled carbon nanotubes was around 400nm. In addition, the surface carbon layer was well crystallized with the thickness of carbon being approximately 10 nm. Lithium-ion batteries that use Sn S2@MWCNT nanostructures for anodes materials have a relatively high electrochemical performance. The first discharge-charge Coulomb yield is 71%, at the end of 50 cycles the capacity remains at 703 mAh?g-1. Study on electrochemical performance of tin disulfide/single-walled carbon nanotube composite material used as anode material for lithium-ion battery

A new composite substance made of SnS2 together with the single-walled carbon-nanotube (SWCNTs) was produced using an easy solvothermal process. It was found to have good electrochemical performance after being placed on the electrode that is negative of lithium ion battery. At a higher current density of 1 A/g, even after 100 cycles, it keeps a reversible reversible particular capacity of 515 amps/g. To illustrate, we applied the same method for synthesis of a single SnS2 material and conducted an electrochemical analysis on it. Results indicate that although the initial performance of SnS2 material is impressive, the cycle performance is weak, and it decreases rapidly after less than 20 cycles. The superior capability of this hybrid material within lithium-ion batteries believed to be due to an interaction between the two components from SnS2 along with SWCNTs.
