How does Aluminium oxide get made?

Aluminium oxide is formed by the bauxite process. There are four stages to the Bayer process. The first is the crushing of the bauxite. Next, it's washed, dried and then, at high temperatures, dissolved in caustic acid. After the mixture has been filtered, it is removed any impurities (called "redmud") and then discarded. The remaining alumina is then transferred to a tank called a "sidler". After the solution has cooled, it is transferred to a sedimentation tank. Then, small amounts of aluminium hydroxide are added. Aluminum hydroxide seeds are used to stimulate crystal formation. Aluminum hydroxide is precipitated at the tank's bottom, and it is then removed. All remaining aluminum hydroxide in the tank is then rinsed out and heated until it is completely dissolved. This is how alumina (or Alumina) becomes a finely ground white powder. While it appears similar to baking sugar, the powder is strong enough to scratch glass plates.
