The
aluminum-silicon alloy
It forms a binary phase in 11.7% silicon, with a melting point at 577°C. Both phases can be described as silicon solid solutions of aluminum and silicon solid solutions of aluminum at room temperature. There is no intermetallic compound. You can add sodium in very small quantities to increase the eutectic strength and harden the dispersion. Although iron is not a very good choice, it can significantly reduce the strength of dispersion. Manganese may be helpful.

When the aluminum-silicon alloys have a silicon content above the Al-Si threshold (silicon content between 12.6% and 14.5%), adding some Ni, Cu, Mg, or other elements to the alloy can increase Its complete mechanical properties.
These can be replaced by cast iron cylinders for a significant weight reduction. You can electrochemically treat the aluminum-silicon cylinder to remove the aluminum from the outside and keep the primary silicon dot embedded within the inner wall. Its wear and scratch resistance can be dramatically improved.
Due to its low weight and corrosion resistance, an alloy with between 11%-13% silicon content is one of the top piston materials.
