aluminum nitride
powder has excellent thermal conductivity, high electrical insulation and thermal expansion characteristics, making it the best material for sintered bodies.
Aluminum nitride is stable at high temperatures in an inert atmosphere and melts at a temperature of about 2200degC. In a vacuum, AlN decomposes at ~1800degC. In the air, surface oxidation will occur above 700degC. Even at room temperature, a surface oxide layer with a thickness of 5-10 nm has been detected. The oxide layer can protect the material at temperatures up to 1370degC. Above this temperature, bulk oxidation occurs. Aluminum nitride is stable in hydrogen and carbon dioxide atmospheres up to 980degC.

(coefficient of thermal expansion ) is 4.5*10^-6/degC, obviously lower than that of alumina or beryllium oxide.
The material slowly dissolves in inorganic acid through grain boundary erosion and dissolves in strong alkali through erosion of aluminum nitride grains. Aluminum nitride is resistant to most molten salts (including chloride and cryolite).

Aln aluminum nitride is an inorganic non-metallic material of diamond-like nitride with good thermal conductivity and a low coefficient of thermal expansion. It is a good thermal shock material. Strong resistance to molten metal corrosion, it is an ideal crucible material for melting and casting pure iron, aluminum or aluminum alloy. Aluminum nitride is also an electrical insulator with good dielectric properties, and it also has good application prospects in the field of electrical component manufacturing.

Epitaxially grown thin-film crystalline aluminum nitride is used for surface acoustic wave sensors (SAWs) deposited on silicon wafers because of AlN's piezoelectric properties. One application is an RF filter, widely used in mobile phones, which is called a thin-film bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR). This is a MEMS device that uses aluminum nitride sandwiched between two metal layers.
AlN is also used to build piezoelectric micromachined ultrasound transducers, which emit and receive an ultrasound and which can be used for in-air rangefinding over distances of up to a meter.
Aluminum nitride ceramic is used in various electrical equipment. In addition to the coefficient of thermal expansion and electrical insulation, aluminum nitride ceramics can resist the erosion of most molten metals, such as copper, lithium and aluminum.
Aluminum nitride substrates have high thermal conductivity and insulation, and can be used in power modules (MOSFET, IGBT), LED packages and modules for cooling and protection circuits.
